Before heading down the Missouri, trader Robert McClellan restocks their larder with whiskey and wine, and Clark enjoys some recuperative cocoa. They stop often for winds and hunting making only 18 miles for the day. At camp near present Doniphan, Missouri, Pvt. Shannon discovers that he has left his powder horn and pouch behind.
